The Conscious Parent

Shefali Tsabary, Phd
The holy grail of parenting, this book should be included in your bag when you leave the maternity ward. As a woman who has had three children, one as a teenager and two in her 30's I can only speak from experience and say that parenting is truly one of the most difficult and beautiful transformative journeys. I had no clue what I was stepping into when I had my first son at 19 years old. I wish I had found this book then. Thankfully it graced my life as I had my second and third children in my 30's when my mind had matured and I was open to hearing what Dr. Tsabary was saying. Because truth be told, I'm not sure if this would've resonated with me at the young age of 19...but I digress. Something I NEVER knew - parenting isn't about your kids as much as it is about YOU. She introduces a set of spiritual principles (no you don't have to be religious) and shows you how to parent consciously. Which is woah...HARD. This isn't a behavioral strategy kind of book. This is a get down and dirty, spiritually transformative book that forces you to look at your past, your trauma and pain, it requires you to get really brave and courageous with your own emotional wounds so you can elevate your relationship with your children. (I could cry just writing this.) I've read this book at least 3 times and will probably have to read it again. It was painful my friends. I wanted to go back in time to rewind when my first was born and do it all over. But of course I couldn't and I had to take ownership of that and use what this wonderful book had given me and apply these principles to my relationship with my oldest who had become a teenager and with my youngest boys who were mere toddlers at the time. After reading this (and shedding many tears working through my own grief and past trauma) I shifted my parenting in alignment with Dr Tsabary's conscious parenting guidelines. If you're thinking about becoming a parent, you're already a parent or maybe on your way to becoming a grandparent - this is an absolute MUST READ.
